Readers, hello! How is your Jubilee weekend going so far? I am so confused, I was convinced it was Saturday all day on Thursday, and today feels like Sunday. Hopefully I’ll remember not to go to work when it’s actually Saturday.
We went to the beautiful village of Croston near Chorley this week, totally by accident as we had a vague idea of going to the Lakes but bailed out on the M61 as the traffic was horrendous.
Croston was Jubilee’d up to the max and it looked gorgeous - bunting and flags everywhere, even some hand-crocheted regal purple decorations adorning the railings.
There’s a lovely cafe and deli where we topped up our picnic with Malteser cookie pie (it tasted even better than it sounds), a brilliant, new-ish play area and we walked alongside the picturesque stream to find a meadow full of buttercups for our picnic.
To top it off I got Jubilee giddy and bought this plate from the cute little homeware shop on the high street:
I know, right? Iconic. My husband will have to pretend to like it.
Onto this week’s adventure. It’s a good one. I didn’t go to this one personally, so I’ve asked my 5yo to help out on this blog. She has some strong opinions, shall we say.
This week’s adventure… The Sooty Show live in Blackpool
The girls love going to my mum and dad’s once a week after school for their tea. They play some games, do some crafts, and also, get to watch Sooty.
I loved Sooty as a kid and can remember laughing till I could barely breathe at his antics. But I’d never thought to show it to the girls - thankfully Nanna and Grandad stepped in, and they all adore it.
When I saw The Sooty Show IRL was coming to Blackpool I bought tickets for the four of them and off they went.
It was at the Joe Longthorne theatre, a vintage venue right at the end of Blackpool’s North Pier, past the gorgeous carousel. VIP tickets were £5 each for the kids and £7 for adults, and, unknown to me, put them right in range of Sooty’s supersoaker (sorry mum!).
The girls loved it, especially walking down the pier to get to the theatre: ‘Mummy, you must tell them that underneath the theatre there were some wooden boards and then you could see the actual sea!’
And the show had them giggling throughout, especially Sooty’s sidekick Sweep: ‘Mummy, you should write that Sweep is really funny and he loves SAUSAGES!!!!!!’
(She asked me to put that in ‘big letters with 50 of those lines with dots underneath’. I restricted it to six.)
Taking the girls to the theatre to see shows is something I love. We don’t do it often but it’s so much fun to see them absorbed in the show and how they react.
And afterwards they stretched their legs on a stroll along their beach, and got a cuddle toy souvenir with their pocket money. Not sure it gets better than that.
We’re finishing off the great Jubilee trifle this morning (obv I bought the ingredients as I don’t have like 4 days to make it) ahead of a BBQ this afternoon. Lovely stuff.
Enjoy the bank hol whatever you’re up to and we’ll I’ll see you next week.
