Ever played frisbee golf? Here's what happened when we tried it
Frisbees, golf and real-life tennis
Readers, hello! How has your week been? Sorry there wasn’t a blog last week, we hadn’t been anywhere new and I ran out of time.
This week though we tried out frisbee golf. It’s a thing. I’ll explain more in a sec.
I’m writing this on the train back from London after my mum and I went to Wimbledon for the day.
We had the strawbs, we drank the Pimms, we ate fruit pastilles while we watched Cameron Norrie (British number 1) embroil himself in a five-setter against a handy Spanish player, bringing back all the memories of watching Henman 20 years ago. It was a lot of fun.
Anyway, on to frisbee golf. Have you tried it? Let me me know in the comments!
This week’s adventure… Frisbee Golf
I had never even heard of frisbee golf until we found it via Google Maps last week. In our ongoing quest to go try new places we discovered Longford Park in Stretford, South East Manchester.
It’s a lovely big park with two big playgrounds and a cute little animal section. It is also home to one of the north west’s only frisbee golf courses.
We hired a couple of frisbees for a pound each and got started. The aim is to stand on the starting block and chuck your frisbee into a metal basket around 50m away.
There are 18 holes (well, baskets) and each has a par. My 5yo needed some frisbee training after her early attempts of chucking it in the air like a tennis ball brought her frisbee crashing down behind her, putting her even further away from the goal.
And my 8yo is a left handed which ALWAYS confuses me when it comes to mini golf or the like as she’s opposite to the rest of us, and I can’t for the life of me work out how she should stand!
But those issues aside we had a fun time flinging the frisbees around the open, sunny course and the girls climbed trees and dashed around as we progressed.
Unless you’re a frisbee golf obsessive (spoiler, I’m not) then 18 holes is a bit excessive. We did 7 before we got a bit bored and went for a coffee and to the playground, maybe if your kids are older you’d make it to 10.
However we did have a fun afternoon in the sunshine in a place we’ve not visited before. And my frisbee game, while not strong, is hopefully a little improved. Plus we went to Wagamamas in the Trafford Centre for tea on the way home, which is always a treat.
Is frisbee golf on your list? Have you tried it? Let me know in the comments
A busy weekend for us ahead as my 8yo is about to turn nine. She’s having a party at InflataNation in Manchester, which is an enormous inflatable obstacle course on an industrial estate near the Trafford Centre. Wish me luck! I’ll report back next week.
That’s it for this week. Thanks as ever to those of you who made it this far, you’re my top readers.
See you next week,
Jenna
